Since 1970, the Voluntary Action Center, located on South Wall Street, has reached out to the community to serve those in need. Temporary housing, utility assistance and emergency clothing are just a few of the services that are offered.
The newest service added has been hot meals offered through the community kitchen five days a week.
“We try to provide a balanced meal plan so that recipients receive a protein, a starch, a vegetable and a carb,” said Stacey Long, executive director.
