Senator Saxby Chambliss

Congress came to Calhoun
Senator Saxby Chambliss and Representative Phil Gingrey addressed an audaudiance of the Gordon County Republicans.
A picnic at Fox Farm is where Senator Chambliss told those in attendance that he hopes that a new farm bill psses congress with a large enough majority to overturn a theatened veto by President George Bush.

Chambliss, the top-ranking Republican on the Senate Agriculture Committee, has been the chief mediator between the White House and the Democratic-controlled Congress on the sprawling legis-lation, particularly on Bush's objections to its $300 billion price tag.Last week, Chambliss sat down for a private lunch with Bush at the White House, trying to per-suade the president that Congress was making significant concessions.
"This is a very balanced farm bill," Chambliss told the Associated Press. "We have addressed each and every one of (his) concerns. We have not given him ecerything he wanted, but we have moved very much in his direction
."

Rep. Phil Gingrey, said that Senator Chambliss "has been working his fingers to the bone on the farm bill." Representative Gingrey went to expressed concern that the use of corn to produce ethanol is driving up the cost for feed paid the Northwest Georgia chicken growers.
